Week 9: Topeka Pump Station

This week was a fairly difficult week for me, but it was also a little more informative and exciting. The job I was assigned was to work on the Topeka Pump Station by creating the outline of the building. This was originally created on a PDF drawing, so it was not a drawing in AutoCAD. I got to go into AutoCAD and draw the building, but it was difficult because I did not know some of the dimensions. This kept me busy for Tuesday, Wednesday, and half of Thursday. On the second half Thursday I got to work on a lighting system again by showing if the light are going to be relocated or if it is already an existing light. I got this done with around ten minutes left, so I had time to check my work. There was also another exciting event this week. On Monday I got to visit the engineering department at Kansas State University, which is where I plan to spend my next four years!

This was not another successful week for my goals. The first thing I did this week was I talked to my mentor about trying structural or mechanical engineering. He got it arranged for me to start on structural engineering next week! This was very exciting because it gives we the opportunity to explore more of my interests. The second goal I completed was emailing the elementary teachers about our science fair, but they have not emailed back about how the projects are doing. This leads to not being able to figure out how many students are coming to the science fair. Another goal I did not complete was the Hess Pump Station because my mentor finished it for me. This was kind of disappointing but I got to work on something I have not done yet. The last goal I did not complete for this week was to complete two slides for my presentation; I hope to do this on Sunday though.
This is what a drawing in AutoCAD looks like, but a background
has different colors so it is easy to identify what each line is.
